Philipp Quiel, LL.M.

I studied at the European University Viadrina and, as part of this, I completed an education that focused strongly on European law, within which I obtained, among other things, a degree in the LL.M. programme "European Business Law". In addition, I was a student assistant at the Chair of Public Law, in particular European Law, of Prof. Dr. Carsten Nowak for several years. I am currently writing a part-time doctoral thesis on fundamental issues of data protection law, whose supervisor is Prof. Dr. Prof. h.c. Jürgen Taeger. In March 2019, I completed a certificate course for data protection officers at Maastricht University. My professional career to date has previously taken me to CMS Hasche Sigle (Munich), among others.

For several years, I have been advising national and international companies of various sizes and industries on data protection law and IT law. I particularly enjoy assisting companies in dealing with enquiries from data protection supervisory authorities and data subjects. I very much enjoy finding solutions to more complex legal and organisational problems. I am one of the editors of the practice-oriented journal "Datenschutz-Berater" (Data Protection Advisor), author of a large number of publications and enjoy speaking at events on data protection and IT law issues.
